In their own words: “Oobject is somewhere between a blog and a directory. We pick topics for lists of gadgets . People then suggest items to go into them by tagging things as Oobject in wists. Visitors then vote on items to create something like ‘Billboard charts for gadgets’, voted by everyone.”
The reason I have included in the Showcase though, is not because of it’s content, but more because of how the site is structured. It is very much being used as a Content Managemnt System and does not give the impression of being a piece of blogging software in any way.
Nice work.
One innovative way to use WordPress is as a contact manager. The WP Contact Manager theme enables you to use WordPress in quite an unconventional manner. Take a look at the demo and you will see that you can utilise the post function of WordPress as a contact list.
I have actually used this type of idea myself, although not using this theme, in the form of a client list in another project, some years ago. As it was a private list and contained confidential information, the ‘Ignore Search Engines’ function was enabled and various password scripts put in place to keep it from prying eyes. The advantage of using WordPress in this way is that it is web based and therefore, accessible from any Internet connection, and it is very easy to use. The post, category, tag and search functionality of WordPress makes this an ideal method of adding information for each client/contact in an easy fashion and can be set out in any format, exactly as you choose.
A site that has been around since the year dot and still going strong, weblogtoolscollection.com pumps out all the latest news about what is happening in the world of WordPress.
It includes a daily update on the newest themes and plugins, lots of little bits and pieces of news relating to latest releases and some great tips here and there.
All of this make weblogtoolscollection a number one place to visit for resources and ideas when you are getting started on your WordPress sites. Highly recommended.
